The Present State

Issue 37 of Public Art Review casts its lines across the pond to examine the developing scene in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The public art boom there is being powered by an ambitious culture ministry and widespread urban renewal. A team of experts, led by guest editor Jeremy Hunt, editor of Art & Architecture Journal, weighs in on some specific promises and problems of a very public public art scene.

The featured state is Ohio, a hotbed of communties and campuses filled with public art. Departments include conference reports, a bevvy of book reviews and recent publications, news from around the world, and an engaging collection of recent project reports (U.S. and U.K.). Scottish-born Alec Finlay is the featured artist, and Francesca Gavin, author of Street Renegades: New Underground Art, commands the Back Page.
